Ethics and Social Issues In Engineering Sciences

Course aims


The course explores ethical and social aspects of engineering. It examines standards and ethical issues in research and practice, extending to the effects of innovation on society at large. It also contextualizes human rights concepts and theories in engineering practice. Finally, the course develops students’ knowledge of problematic issues, ethical principles, and main regulations as well as skills for analyzing and integrating the professional responsibility criteria in specific engineering solutions.

Course content
Course Objectives

Students who successfully complete this course will:
  • acknowledge the value of social science input for engineering work;
  • possess an awareness of social needs and interests;
  • identify the impact of engineering on society;
  • know Code of Ethics for Engineers;
  • consider ethical issues while developing new technologies.
