During the whole year (120 hours, five modules), you will acquire all the necessary skills of academic writing and the ability to write texts of different genres across the disciplines: a personal narrative essay, technical manuals for diverse audience, a book review and an academic essay (Module 1); a summary and response essay (Module 2). The winter semester will start with the analysis of scientific genres and the scientific method (Module 3). In Module 4, you will look back over some of the scientific breakthroughs of the past and consider what discoveries and inventions will advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people in the future. The outcome of this module will be a science essay on the role of science in daily life and academic success. Finally, Module 5 will give you understanding of the hybrid genres of academic writing in the context of mediatization of science – a press release and a news report. This course is both a guide and a useful tool.
